In 2011 my New Year’s resolution was to take my creativity to a new level. A month later when nothing had magically changed, I realized I needed a plan. Soon after I heard about 365: A Daily Creativity Journal: Make Something Every Day and Change Your Life! by Noah Scalin. By creating something everyday, the author had transformed his life. He had won awards, created product lines, was on the Martha Stewart Show and wrote this book, among other things! I wasn’t searching for fame or fortune. I just wanted to do more than survive. My creative side has faded to gray and I was tired of just getting by. I wanted to bring myself back to life! I wanted to thrive!…. I knew I couldn’t take on a daily creative project so decided on a weekly project instead. Even that would be a big challenge. So in February 2011 the 52 Pillows Project began.
It’s almost 3 years later now and since I started my project, A LOT of life has happened. Stress and survival mode have taken on an entirely new meaning. And there have been a lot of big gaps between my “weekly” creations. But I keep going… why? Because I’m actually having fun! And it’s a nice break from the stresses of life. At my current pace I expect to finish my “year-long” project in late 2015, making my year-long project an almost 5-year project. I say this laughingly. It just shows how life rarely goes as planned and all you can do is hang on for the ride and make the best of what comes your way.
