Butterscotch Brownie Recipe

The 3rd and last course of a traditional 3-course tea party consists of Desserts – my favorite! Butterscotch Brownies are classic, plus they’re pretty easy to make. Perfect for an adult OR kids tea party! Remember to cut into finger sized portions. Click here to see other tea party recipes.

Butterscotch Brownies (or Blondies)
(original recipe from 1956 Betty Crocker Picture Cookbook, Revised and Enlarged)

1/4 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar, packed
1 egg
3/4 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 c walnuts, chopped

Preheat oven to 350F. Grease 8″ pan. Melt butter over low heat. Remove from heat and stir in brown sugar until blended. Cool. Stir in egg.

In separate bowl, sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Add dry ingredients into butter/sugar/egg mixture. Then stir in vanilla and nuts.

Spread dough into pan. Bake until, when touched lightly with finger, only a slight imprint remains, about 25 minutes. Cut into bars while still warm, if you wish.

Can be frozen and thawed for later serving. Or stored in an airtight container for several days.

Makes about 18 bars
